Greene, Jones, Lenoir and Wayne County
Waynesboro Historical Village
Goldsboro / Wayne County
Ever wonder how folks had fun in the 1800's? Add Summerfest at Waynesborough Historical Village to your schedule for this July weekend and you'll experience the real thing! There's watermelon eating and seed spitting contests barrel hoop racing, sack racing, checkers, hopscotch, horseshoes, bobbing for apples,tug-o-war--over water--where the loses really win because they get to cool off! Music expertly played on instruments of the period help create an authentic atmosphere. You'll hear dulcimers, bluegrass and country tunes. You can even bring your own favorite instrument and take part in a country jam session after the Civil War church service on Sunday. See the NC Falconry Guild's birds of prey. Watch a Rabbit Rodeo. You can even catch one to take home! Living History events feature Civil War canon fire, drills and raids on the village. Craft displays are often featured, too, like those of local quilt clubs and other crafters. Don't miss this weekend of fun for all ages! Call for specific dates.
